Sometimes we rent it out long term:
Our little guest house is on our ten acres of Heaven, in the country, but overlooking downtown Austin, Texas, and only 17 minutes to downtown. It's fully furnished and ready to live in, including dishes, linens, etc.
It's much like a roommate setup, since it's right next to our home, and you're sharing our property.
It's very private for you (and we are very private) and you may only rarely see us. We have silent spiritual retreats in our home/retreat center next door every few months, so you must be quiet, mellow, and not a partier.
It's like a country retreat cabin, and you get the country atmosphere only 17 minutes from downtown.
The main purpose for letting our guest house be occupied at all is to have someone VERY reliable with a lot of common sense to feed the horses, dogs, chickens, and ducks. We like someone being at the ranch while we travel. Animal care takes only 15-20 minutes per day. Must love animals, AND I must feel confident leaving the animals with you. I'll choose on this basis.
We need someone who does NOT travel a lot themselves, or who will always talk to us and plan around our travel.
Someone who is handy is a bonus, and you'd be paid extra for occasional ranch chores when we need it. We've never given a rent reduction for any of this, so please don't ask. People are delighted to get to live in this amazingly special country place so close to Austin.
You must be financially stable and always be on time, on the first, with your rent.
Late fee is $25 if rent is later than the third.
It's tiny but charming. Only 467 sq. ft. including the 2 cozy low-ceilinged lofts. Comfy single mattress included in one loft, or bring your own. The other loft is your closet.
Lofts are too low to stand up, but you can sit up on yur bed. It's cozy and people LOVE living here. It has GREAT feng shui and great vibes. It was built and decorated with love. Some have decorated it very lavishly.
Cook on the hotplate and in the small oven. Full size frig. Bring your own microwave.
Heat/AC works quickly, or let the breeze flow through. Get your own phone hooked up (jacks are there) or use cell.
There is a satellite TV dish from the last renter, but you have to pay for your own satellite if you want it, as we don't use it. Or get rabbit ears.
If you have a wireless laptop we have wifi. If not, you'd get your own service through your phone line.
Shower, no tub.
Walk the property, hang your hammock, share a garden with us, stargaze, hike the nearby greenbelt and creek, shop 10 minutes away at Southpark Meadows, go to downtown Austin 17 minutes away and play.
You can see the city from our hill. At night it's dark all around, except toward the city lights, which twinkle dramatically due north.
$570 per month includes all utilities
$450 deposit.
$1020 total move-in.
There is no lease. You or I can terminate the arrangement anytime if we're not happy, with 30 days notice.
You forfeit the deposit if your stay is less than 6 months, because of the work involved in re-renting it so soon.
We'd have to discuss dogs, since I have a dog.
Absolutely, positively, no cats.
You could maybe board a horse here at additional cost depending on how your horse is about respecting wire fences.
This is the cottage porch -- cottage on left, our house on the right. That window you see is always shuttered, and that room is rarely used, so it's private for you.
